I have always been a big fan of the CASAMANARA showroom … Every time I passed by it was impossible for me not to stop to scrutinize their creations of furniture and their works of art.

From September to November 9, 2019, you can discover an extraordinary exhibition: exceptional pieces – tables, seats, storage furniture and lighting fixtures dating back to the 1950s and all signed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret . Pieces to contemplate but also to buy for everyday use or collector’s items.

Piero Manara and Debla Manara Berger have a particular attachment to history, that of master builders who remain examples and sources of inspiration. That’s how they decided to stop the time machine in a region of India where a city dream was imagined by big names in architecture and design: Chandigarh, the administrative capital of Punjab. Indeed, after India’s independence, Prime Minister Nerhu asked several architects to found this city with a thousand promises: “a city freed from the traditions of the past, a symbol of the faith of the nation in the future” After periods of violence and unrest, Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret had the task of creating it. A new space imagined for a new people with new volumes furnished furniture both beautiful and useful. Design masterpieces with soul and eternity.

For years, himself an expert in the field, Jacques Dworczak was interested in this reserve of beauties. In a book dedicated to this fascinating period, he established “an overview of the wide range of furniture created by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret”. A meticulous work listed in “The Catalog Raisonné Furniture: Jeanneret Chandigarh” Editions Assouline.
